Port Salon

So I thought I'd talk about my new job for a little bit. It's called Port Salon and it's right next to the Aliante Hotel and Casino, if you know or care where that is. I work Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for 9 - 5 or 6 depending on if I have a client or not. I am growing to love the people I work with. They have been so so nice. They are all quite a bit older than me but I think I mentioned that in my last post. I'm getting busier and am bringing in okay money. I really like the clientele base that comes in it's been really fun. I have to write about the funniest client I think I have ever had. On Saturday I had a Japanese client named Hermie. She moved here 20 years ago with her husband (who is American and was in the military) and daughter. So when I write some of the things that she said you have to say them in a 60 year old Japanese womans voice. To start off our conversation she asked me what I was for Halloween. I told her Poison Ivy and her eyes got kinda big and she said "Ooh that sexy! Oh ya Poison Ivy is very sexy!" (remember use you best Asian voice) we continued to talk and somehow the topic of marriage was brought up. She started giving me advice and said that communication was important and... "if he want to have sex, you talk about it and then you do it!" Wow talk about advice! Okay now here is my favorite part of the story. She asked to see my Poison Ivy costume so I showed her the picture of me and my friend Ian who dressed up as Batman (see last post, the story will be much funnier if you look at them first) I explained to her that Ian was dressed up as Batman, this is what she said "He no Batman! Batman sexy! He no sexy! Batman have sexy shirt with muscles! He wear no shirt and have no muscles. Cover him up! He is no sexy!" Now you can imagine how hard I was laughing at this lady and how bad I felt for Ian because some 60 year old Japanese woman just gave him the verbal beating of a lifetime even though he didn't hear it. Okay same day different story. I work with a lady name Susie, she is in her late 40's and she is Greek. She moved to the states when she was 20. Love her. She is the sweetest lady and she is very very very honest and straight forward. We were sitting in the break room with the receptionist, Julie and another stylist, Wendy. I don't know how but the topic of sex came up. Obviously I don't have much to say on the matter but Susie thought I needed to be a little more vocal. She turns to me, looks me straight in the eye and asks "are you active?" There aren't very many times where I'm speechless but that was one of them. When I told her no she continued to ask "oh so you are waiting for marriage?" my response "um yes" and her response " oh that's good. See I thought my daughter was active but she wasn't, she waited til she was engaged." I didn't know a response to that so that was the moment I went to check on my client. I had a good laugh at both those stories. But I'm loving my job and I always love to cut hair so it has been a lot of fun.

Halloween! Moving! New Job!

Okay so this last week has been a pretty busy week. First it was Halloween. I love Halloween! This Halloween was so much fun. On Friday night Me and some friend went up to Cedar for the SUU Howell, which is a big dance. I dress up as Poison Ivy and my friend dressed up as Batman. We ended up staying at my friend apartment. Since only 2 of us brought blankets we had to figure out how to fit 5 people under 2 blankets. Let's just say we went to sleep at 6 and it was the worst sleep I ever had. But is was fun. Saturday was very fun too. I think the best part was just walking around in our costumes, especially Ian. Geez I love that kid.
This is Ian. And I love him. My dad told me I look like a hooker but I have to disagree with him.
And this is my friend Kylee, she was Raggidy Ann (so cute) she wore all her own clothes that she would wear any other day, except the apron of cours.
And these are my friends Jason and Mike. Don't they look great! If you want an easy Halloween costume that looks freakin sweet, I would recomend that one.
Okay now about moving, I finally got down to Vegas. It took forever I know and so far it has been great. I really like it down here! I love getting to know Carson and building a bond with him. When he is happy he is the cutest little boy ever! He's cute when he's sad too but he is so loving and playful when he is happy! I love it. My job has been great the 2 days that I've gone. The people have been so nice. I'm quite a bit younger than everyone but they are the sweetest people. I work at a Salon called Port Salon by the way. It's been way fun so far and I can't wait to get more established!

What a Life!

Well as most of you know I am finally moving to Vegas!!! I took like 3 months but at least I'm getting there. In Idaho I didn't have a lot of time to update my blog because I worked and went to school but now that I will only be working I made it a goal to be a little better at it! So I'll start by writing about the few months I've been home!

August
Nothing really happened...

September
Nothing really happened...

October
Where do I start? I guess at the beginning. This month was by far my most eventful month! I finally got my Nevada license so I typed up my resume, printed about 15 out and headed down to Vegas for some serious job hunting. I called about 30 and 3 let me repeat that 3 salons were hiring. The first salon I went to was called Northwest salon and 2 old men worked there and no, they were not gay. The third salon I took it to was the nicest of the 3. The owner said he would be in touch, they called me and wanted an interview and I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!! Woohoo! I'm pretty stoked. We also went to Beaver has a family. It was a lot of fun. We went riding and enjoyed being away from the busy life! My mom decided she wanted to take some family pictures. This is the best one we got out of it!
Not to bad but there were about 5 billion in front of it. Now while we were taking pictures we have one pose on a teeter totter. All 5 boys were on one side and I was on the other lifted up into the air as high as the teeter totter would go. Well the boys decided to get off all at once and I came crashing down to the floor. Luckily nothing was broken!

I have been hanging out with some good friends of mine quite a bit lately and we recently went on a little adventure. We decided to take his golf cart and go through the drive through at Wend's we got some pretty dirty looks, the people at Wendy's didn't even think we were funny! I don't know what their problems are! For time sake and so I don't bore you guys with my uneventful life I'm going to end with a few pictures.

This is Mike (top) and Jason (bottom). They are some of the friends that keep getting me into trouble!

So I think most people have heard the big news that I'm moving to Vegas. And the most frequently asked question is WHY? Why don't you stay in Saint George? Why are you quitting school. Well I love Vegas! This is the time in my life where I get to think about me and only me, and being an LDS girl who knows how long I have left of this freedom. School is just not my thing, I tried it and the whole college thing is just not for me. I like to cut hair. So that's what I'm going to do in Vegas. I'm living with Darlene and Chyler for the first little while and am so excited about it. It will be a lot of fun to see Carson everyday and I'm sure I can be a big help to Darlene when her baby comes. There are some things about leaving Rexburg that I'm not looking forward to: leaving Bri and Alan and Kiersten, and that about sums it up. It kills me to think that I won't see Bri all the time. I Just Freakin Love Her!! The other day I went to go get movie tickets for the new Harry Potter with Kiersten, when we walked in the door she ran around Kiersten and gave me a big hug. I know Kiersten didn't appreciate that too much but I enjoyed it very much. I have about 2 more weeks left up here, and only 17 more days in Idaho. WOO HOO!! I'll finally know what the sun looks like again!
We figured we would be patriotic and try to look like Uncle Sam. We also tried to be sexy with the whole "we want you" thing. As you can tell, Sexy is not a good look for me.

Biggest Pet Peeve

Ok so let me just start out by saying I LOVE MY JOB, I think it is the smartest decision I have made in my life so far. So when people totally rip on hair dressers and hair school it drives me insane. I was having a conversation with one of my roomies the other night and she was telling me how she wants to go to hair school but her parents won't let her. I asked why her parents don't want her to and she replied that hairdressers don't make enough money! THEY ARE FREAKIN TEACHERS! No offense to teachers or anything. But really, if I worked full time ANYWHERE, and got my cliental built up to where I'm busy, I'm pretty sure I would make more than a teacher. So i decided to list all the reasons I love my job and reasons why if someone wants to go to hair school they should go!!!!
1. I LOVE cutting hair - I get to go to work and do the one thing that I love doing more than anything. Doing hair is my passion. How many people can really say that?
2. I get to talk to people all day long. I know a lot of jobs get to do that, but I get to talk about things I actually like to talk about. Okay not always, there are some crazy people but for the most part people are nice and normal and talk about really interesting things.
3. For a 20 year old girl in college, I make pretty decent money. No I'm not rolling in the dough...yet. But if I were to work my top priority and move some big city, I could really make some big bucks. There is a man in Manhatttan that charges $1000 for a hair cut! ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Do you know how long it takes to cut someones hair? 30 minutes to an hour tops. Now lets do the math... If that man works 40 hour weeks, he makes $40,000 a week (That's not counting colors and those are where you make your money) So his yearly income is roughly 2 million dollars!
4. I can make my own hours when I have my own salon. My boss has 2 kids at home, she works 3 to 4 days a week, from 9 to 2. If she wants a day off, she takes the day off. If she wants to leave early, she leaves early. How nice would that be?
5. I get really great benefits. My product is cheap, my haircuts are free and I do my own color. Not only that but my hair looks good (most of the time) Yes that is a little bit arragont but it's really nice when your hair gets messed up and you know who to fix it.
6. This is a cheesie answer but its true. When someone comes in and had been dying for a change and d you deliver what they asked for, it's the best feeling to see the excitement in their faces and how much more confident they walk out verses when they walked in.
7. I like that I can help my family out. I do families hair for free, they just have to pay for the product. People ask me all the time if that bugs me, I doesn't at all. I actually really like it. It's nice to know that I'm helping my family save money. When I went home last, I did some hair. I added up what I would have made if they were clients at work. My total was $330. It's kinda nice to know I helped my family save $300 dollars. That sounds like a Geico commercial.
8. It's something I can do out of my house when I'm married with a family. It will be really nice to be able to help, even if it's just a little bit.
9. Come of my clients have become friends. I've met a few people that I talk to and hang out with outside of work.
10. This is one that probably isn' t the best one but I've really grown to appreciate it. Gossip! I hear a ton of gossip, especially in my small town, but I realize it can be useful. Like if I lived in St. George, I could find out about the girls my bros like, like are the good girls, are they cute, do they have good parents, you know all that fun stuff.
11. It challenges me. Doing hair is a lot harder than people would think. There are so many rules and then exceptions to the rules and sometimes the rules don't apply and when the rules don't apply you have to know how to fix what you just did without the client knowing you did anything wrong. I learn something new everyday, whether it's something I teach myself or something another stylist teaches me.
12. Shrinks are over rated! Just go to your hair stylist because we hear just as much as any shrink. I'm kidding... partly. I have had to learn how to react to thing people say in a professional way and not give my honest opinion, so I've learned to deal with a lot of different people. I had a client who was kinda... crazy. She saw Joseph Smith in a vision and he showed her the gold plates and then the next time she came in she was leaving her husband because he was addicted to pornography. It was really sad
13. Hairstyling is the best! I love it, love it, love it!!!!

P.S. I turn 20 in 3 days!

Hey everyone! I'm sure you all are dying to hear about what has been going on the last few months in Rexburg. Well you are in for the most boring 5 minutes of your life. I started my second semester and it has been BUSY!!!! Between school and work and then more school, I am never home. In fact my eye has been twitching the last few days from lack of sleep and stress. I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm a tweeker. My classes are a lot of fun though. I don't have any class that I don't enjoy going to. Some because I actually like the class and some because there are some stinkin cute boys. I got 3 new roomies this new semester and they are great. I have a girl that is actually 17! We have become really good friends she is so much fun. She is even coming home with me next week for Ty's Graduation (well he invited her down). Is anyone else in disbelief that he is graduating? I can't believe. I'm sure that is what everyone was thinking when I was graduating but it just seems sooo wierd. Work is going great. I'm still in St. Anthony and love it! I did have a lady call me the other day and ask (in a hikish accent) "Is this the place where you get your hair did?" I almost started to laugh. I went on my first tractor ride! I was pretty excited about it! A cute boy took me on it actually and he was my FHE brother. Well there is this saying that dating in your ward is like peeing in the pool but dating in your FHE group is like peeing in the bathtub. I now understand why there is that saying. Long story short, I'm neve going on a date with anyone in my FHE group again. Well I hope everyone is doing well! I love you ALL!!!

School, Work and More School

Hey Family!!!
I know I haven't written in awhile but the second week of school my laptop broke and it took a month to get it back. Well since the last time I wrote I moved into my apartment and met my room mates. They are all really nice but we definitely different. The girl I room with is an RM, she served her mission in Canada and just got back in October. I do have one room mate who smells...really bad. So bad that if we leave her door open for 10 seconds our whole apartment smells. School is hard! I feel like all I do is study and I have nothing to show for it (well very little to show for it). I'm taking Intro to Business Management, writing foundations, general psychology, world math and Book of Mormon. My favorite class is psychology, I learn the most interesting things and it helps that probably the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen sits by me, so really that class I don't always pay attention in but when I do I learn some good stuff. Work is going so well. I'm finally getting a clientele. I do get some crazies. I had one lady tell me that she saw Joseph Smith and the Gold Plates in a dream and that's how she knew the church was true. She made me a necklace/ choker made out of moon and star beads with a "I am a Child of God" charm in the middle. Oh so terrific! Life is going overall pretty well!
Some of my FHE brothers, we went ice skating, I didn't fall one!

Amy, my RM roomie is in the middle, Michelle, on the right, is my other roomie from Shelly.
My friend Scott AKA the most interesting person I've ever met. He wanted me to paint his toe nails.
